History: trainbridge Rotterdam harbour
During the construction of Maasvlakte 2, it was essential to ensure the continuous supply of cooling water to the existing power plant. To accommodate this, a temporary channel was created to allow water to flow uninterrupted throughout the construction period.
The complexity of the project stemmed from the fact that a cycle path, a two-lane industrial road, and a railway line serving the container terminal along the Yangtze Canal all had to remain operational in this area.
The client required a temporary traffic bridge and a temporary rail bridge to maintain port operations. We provided a solution using Janson Bridging’s modular standard bridge system. A ballast bed was installed on the existing bridge deck, supported by a specially designed side skirt construction to retain the ballast securely in place.
This was a technically demanding task, but thanks to the ingenuity of our engineers and the client’s trust in our capabilities, the rail bridge functioned flawlessly throughout the project duration.
